I Think I’ve Found My Tribe

image

There’s no feeling in the world like the one when you find your kindred spirits.

I’m still such a baby at this blogging lark. Four months old, I’m barely sleeping through the night! But I am learning every day and the thing that makes it so amazing is the people I’m connecting with.

Yes, they come from all walks of life.

Yes, they live in all four corners of the world.

And yes, their stories are as varied as the weather.

But they’re here. Doing what they do. Connecting. Sharing. Embracing. Supporting.

Now that’s my kinda tribe.

I’m honoured to say that I’ve been nominated for some awards recently, so I thought I’d do one post about them all.

Infinite Dreams

Sharon from Curious Queendom nominated me for my first ever award (thanks for being there from the beginning) – this little beauty called Infinite Dreams Award.

image

From Dream to Plan nominated me for the very inspiring Versatile Blogger Award.

image

Ioana From Music Teacher Lifestyle nominated me for this super gorgeous award.

image

Daisy in the Willows nominated me for this epically awesome award.

All four blogs are worthy of a mention and great places to hang out. They’re unique and inspiring in their own way and are the definition of what makes blogging great. They’ve have been so supportive towards me with their comments. Thank you so much.

The awards all share similar rules so I’m going to do a mixture of them all…

Things you need to know about me

I’m a sensory gal – I eat with my eyes; love sounds such as laughter, music, the rain; crave the feel of soft things on my skin; am seduced by smells such as fresh coffee and perfume; adore eating Thai food and totally love hugs.

My blog is where I write to inspire people to go out and find their happy place, find what makes their soul sing and find themselves along the way. My motivation is to make someone, somewhere smile every day.

I think you are all amazing. Believe it.

I’m addicted to quotes – I get excited when I find the perfect one for just the right occasion.

I love beautifully wrapped gifts – coordinated paper, bags, tissue and ribbon makes my heart do little star jumps.

I’m easily seduced by a pretty cocktail.

I dislike chick flicks – will always opt for the action movie.

My kids are my happy place. Period.

I have an eclectic taste in music – I can switch from classical movie soundtracks to Caro Emerald to Five Finger Death Punch to nineties hip hop to eighties hair metal, depending on my mood!

I still haven’t decided what I want to do when I grow up.

Things I need to know about you

Name one amazing thing that has happened to you this week?

Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years time?

What’s your favourite colour and what does it make you think of?

If you were given an extra 12 hours tomorrow, how would you spend them?

Do you know someone who is awesome? Tell me and then tell them.

I know I totally broke all the rules by putting four awards on one post – but hey, isn’t that what blogging’s all about? Your story your way?

Anyway, the main reasons we do these awards are to share blogs worth sharing and to get to know each other better – and I believe I’ve done that with bells on!

I apologise if you’ve already been nominated or this just isn’t your bag, baby – I won’t be offended if you ignore it! But if you want to, you can choose one of these (or all) awards to claim for yourself.

I cannot wait to get you know better – drop me a message when you post.

Awesome and epic, versatile, lovely and infinite dreams are amazing things to be nominated for. However, I’m only as awesome as the readers who inspire me day after day to keep on writing – so thanks to my tribe out there, reading my stuff.

I’m so glad I found you 💋

Not your average afternoon tea @Robata

We were enticed to Robata, a restaurant that prides itself on combining Pan-Asian styled cuisines with a modern approach, by images of a high tea the likes I’ve never seen before. Both the Head Chef and Head Pastry Chef have previously worked in award winning restaurants and hotels and their expertise and experience was evident in all courses of our lunch.

I’m always intrigued by any experience that is a little different; food, drink or otherwise and this was certainly ‘not your average’.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

With a wall of windows that let in an incredible amount of natural light and delicate background music the restaurant atmosphere was relaxed and calm. This mellow feeling continued throughout our lunch as we were leisurely, but efficiently served by a team of cheery staff.

High Tea is priced at £19.50. Other options available include a Champagne and a  Gentleman’s version both priced at £27.50. We opted for the Cocktail High Tea priced at £24.50 as I cannot resist a pretty little alcoholic number.

First we had a Ginger and Lemon Iced Tea; complete with flowers. We were informed that it was to cleanse your palate and prepare your taste buds for what was to come. It was surprisingly enjoyable and very refreshing.

High Tea is served in two waves with complimenting drinks. This helps set the pace for the experience, in fact we were advised not to rush but take our time, as it’s more filling than you might imagine.

Our hot food was delivered in a bamboo steamer basket. When the lid was lifted, the smell was divine.

image

It was tasty too; the Duck Leg Long Bao was soft and tender; the Chicken Yakatori and the Breaded Prawn and Tofu Ball were both full of flavour.

image

After a short while, an extravaganza was brought to the table. Both Hubby and I said “Wow” in unison! They say you eat with your eyes first and this certainly fulfilled. The photograph doesn’t do it justice, it was so beautiful.

image

We started with the Avocado Maki Roll – my favourite type of sushi. Dipped in a little soy sauce, I popped the whole thing in my mouth (quite a feat as it was pretty big!) and it was really good.

The Beetroot Cured Salmon and Squid Ink Cracker was an amazing sight. To me, it resembled the bottom of the ocean or a coral reef. It tasted as good as it looked too, although I ate this a little more delicately!

image

Our cocktails arrived at the same time and if you follow me on Instagram you know I’m always on the lookout for a pretty one. I had the Mandarin and Kumquat Bellini.

And Hubby had a non alcoholic English Garden.

First shelf devoured, we moved onto the desserts. They all looked so amazing we both said we didn’t know where to start. However I quickly decided it had to be the Yuzu and Lime Tartlet which was a myriad of textures and flavours that ticked all the boxes for a sensory gal such as myself – crunchy base, soft filling, chewy meringue…mouth-wateringly yummy.

The Orange Scone with Orange Curd had a subtle zing and the filling was a refreshing alternative to clotted cream and jam. It had a lovely softness that only just baked cakes have.

image

The piece de resistance for us both though was the Hazelnut and Chocolate Delice. The sponge was moist, with an almost mousse like texture, soft, gooey and totally chocolatey.

image

After devouring the chocolate delight, a much needed breather came in the shape of our tea. Hubby opted for traditional English Breakfast, but I went for a mellow Jasmine Blossom.

After our pause, all that was left was the Spiced Strawberry Trifle. Thankfully this was a light affair and not too much to handle.

I am no stranger to afternoon teas and although they all have their own signature element – nothing has come close to this unique dining experience.

Carefully crafted, perfectly presented and delightfully delicious. High praise for the Robata High Tea.

Kindness is always fashionable

image

Week 4 of the kindness challenge was all about being kind.

The prompt this week was about incorporating kind actions into your everyday so that they become habits that develop into a lifestyle. Small things that we can do to enhance someone’s experience – hold open a door; say please and thankyou; helping neighbours; making eye contact and just spending time with people.

Niki’s Tip: Kindness doesn’t need to be reserved for special occasions, tallied or capped. You can’t spread too much kindness! The more you practice, the more it becomes apart of your lifestyle and the less you need to think about being kind- you just are.

This week I was out and about a lot. So I decided I was going to compliment, say thanks and wish people a great day wherever I went.

And so I did.

Every blog, coffee shop, restaurant and people I came into contact with this week got an extra cheery compliment and a ‘Thankyou, have a great day’.

It’s funny how quickly it became second nature. I couldn’t leave anywhere (including blog posts) without saying something kind. And why shouldn’t you let people know if they’ve touched, inspired, changed or bettered your day in some way? We often think compliments but don’t always share them out loud.

You won’t believe how many smiles I put on people’s faces. People love it when they receive a genuine compliment, especially when you share it with someone else also.

What small actions can you incorporate into your everyday that will improve someone else’s day?

Spread the word people, let’s start a revolution – a kindness revolution.
